The Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland needed to enhance the image of the city, and generate visits by leisure travelers, meeting planners, and travel professionals. Also, because the CVB is a member-based organization, it needed to provide its members with marketing support. What would be the best way to accomplish these goals?
Vilocity worked with the CVB, developing a brand new version of Travelcleveland.com, the official website of the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland. The revamped site
featured a bold new look and more in-depth information on everything Cleveland. New to the site were Cleveland Deals with printable coupons for tourists, an expanded Meeting
Planners section providing convention and meeting planners with comprehensive tools to plan their visit, and a new Travel Professionals section to guide group tour operators and encourage them to choose Cleveland as their destination. Vilocity also created administrative tools that enabled CVB members to add their own events, hotel packages, discounts, and job listings to the site, freeing up CVB staff time. Other elements included sweepstakes to incent registrations for use with future direct marketing, and Cleveland E-Postcards that used "viral marketing" to encourage visitors to send a postcard to a friend and thus help spread the word about Cleveland. A call-to-action included an offer for a free Cleveland Travel Packet, fulfilled by the State of Ohio Department of Tourism via an automatic weekly data transfer.
The new site has received much praise in local media such as The Plain Dealer and Crain's, plus regional and national media as well. Travelcleveland.com enjoys approximately 1 million visits annually. More requests for Cleveland Travel Packets now come through the website than any other source...even the State of Ohio's 1-800-BUCKEYE. Cleveland was even named a "Top 10 Summer Vacation Spot" by msn.com.
